Working patterns have changed like never before.
There was already an undercurrent of change in how individuals and businesses managed the division of time between hours at the office and hours working from home. The undercurrent was small but growing and in 2020 it was radically accelerated by the Covid19 pandemic.
In 2020 it was reported that 44% of workers intended to ask their employer for permanent flexible working arrangements after the coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

This is reflected in industry as major companies say they plan to allow much more flexible working (e.g. NatWest, Fujitsu, Facebook, Lloyds Banking Group, Twitter, Linklaters, HSBC).
A policy has been announced by one of the UK's devolved governments to develop a network of “community-based working hubs”. The intention is to develop “a hybrid workplace model, where staff can work in the office, at home, or in a hub location,” and that these hubs will be “ within walking or cycling distance of homes”.
